I am often asked "what's your favorite country?" I have a hard time answering because there is always something special about each place I have visited. There are a few places that make me smile a bit harder every time I think of them.
In 2010, I moved to DC. I always knew DC was going to be home after spending a summer interning here. From free museums, to amazing rooftops, the DC vibe is unmatched. While here, make sure to enjoy bottomless brunch and visit as many of the museums and monuments as possible.
NYC will always have a special place in my heart. Hailed as the "City that Never Sleeps" I know it as the place where I was born and raised. From strolling through Central Park and visiting museums, as an adult, I now enjoy the bar/lounge scene. There is always something poppin' in the city, choose wisely.
The midwest gets me all the time but Rapid City, SD is a whole other vibe. A $1 trolley ride will introduce you to all the city has to offer. That includes, dinosaurs, museums, parks, and presidents. From here, you can visit Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. Rapid City is definitely a place you should visit.
Life as a tourist is so carefree in Amsterdam. I enjoyed cruising through the canals and people watching. Getting around Amsterdam is super easy and super cheap. If you are coming to Amsterdam to visit Anne Frank's house, book in advance. There are so many museums to visit here and if museums aren't your thing, turn up!
Rome is definitely a spot for history buffs. Book an AirBnB experience to tour the city. After taking pictures at the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Colosseum, and all the other sights on your list, enjoy cheap wine and all of the pasta. While in Rome, visiting Vatican City is a must. Enjoy the 2 for 1 special and if you are lucky, you might see the Pope!
London is by far my favorite city in Europe. It gives me all the NYC vibes. Ride the Tube to all of the landmarks and tourists attractions. Party all night with a diverse crowd in Brixton. Enjoy the views of the city while you cruise down the Thames River. There is so much to see and do here. I can't wait to visit again!
Teranga! The Wolof word for hospitality. As soon as you touch down in Senegal, you are greeted with so much love. While in Dakar, make sure to visit N'Gor and Les Almadies for beach life and the night scene. Take a ferry to Goree Island to learn about the role this car free island played in the slave trade. Enjoy a day of haggling at the market but most importantly, make sure you are present and enjoy all the things Dakar has to offer.
With Table Mountain as your backdrop what is there not to love about Capetown. I explored the city on the Hop on Hop Off bus and it was amazing! The bus routes introduces you to all of the sites. My favorite adventures in Capetown include, 3 hours of trekking up Table Mountain and catching the train to see penguins at Boulder Beach.
Just a 2-3 hour ferry ride away from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar is paradise. I spent the majority of my time in Stonetown getting lost in narrow streets. I practiced my Swahili with the locals and went on excursions with Rafiki (friend is Swahili). My favorite thing about Zanzibar is the notion of 'pole pole' aka slowly slowly. Everything is slow pace here and sometimes, that is just what the doctor ordered.
Snuggled between Martinique and St. Vincent & The Grenadines you'll find St. Lucia. I flew into Castries and enjoyed the Friday night street party in Gros Islet. My favorite part of the trip was spent in Soufriere. I visited the Tet Paul Nature Trail for stunning views of the Pitons, Diamond Botanical Gardens to chase waterfalls, and bathing in sulfur at St. Lucia's Sulfur Springs. Beautiful island with beautiful people.
No passport needed! The US Virgin Islands are comprised of 3 islands, St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John. Visiting them all is easy due to reliable ferry service. From lounging at the beach, to hiking through national parks, and visiting forts, there is something to do for everyone. My favorite thing about the USVI is that it is so close and you can visit multiple islands on one trip.
I celebrated my birthday here in 2016 and we had a blast! Getting around the island is super easy, just hop in a van on the main road going towards your direction. On Fridays, enjoy the Oistin Fish Fry. Great tunes and great food, what more can one ask for? The party scene at St. Lawrence Gap is lit! Can't go to Barbados without enjoying the beach.
I went to Cartagena November 2019 to celebrate my 32nd birthday and had a blast! Visiting Volcan Totumo is a must and so is partying the night away on a Chiva party bus. Stroll through the Walled City for the culture and saunter through Getsemini's narrow streets for murals and all things art. I highly suggest you assemble your squad and enjoy this beautiful city with your friends!
My travel journey started in Puerto Rico so of course it had to make the list. My first time here was a mother/daughter trip and I've been back multiple times ever since. There are a lot of things that I love about Puerto Rico. That list includes, the beaches, mofongo, forts, and the trolley to all of the landmarks. Old San Juan is so live at anytime of day; be prepared to dance!
Planned a girls trip to Haiti and we had a blast! You too can visit Haiti as a tourist. Thanks to a friend I made while studying abroad in Senegal, she made sure our experience was dope. We spent the day laid out at Wahoo beach sipping cocktails and dancing to some awesome tunes. Took in the sights from the Observatoire, stopped by the National Palace, and visited the Musée du Panthéon National. I'm looking forward to returning to visit Jacmel and Cap Haitien.
TLC said "don't go chasing waterfalls" but after finding out that I could see 3 waterfalls during 1 hike, I jumped at the opportunity. In the city, I enjoyed visiting Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, night markets and From hot springs. Day trips to Shifen and Jiufen is a must if you are into waterfalls and lanterns. I wish I had spent more time in Taiwain because it is everything!
Not going to lie, "Crazy Rich Asians" put Singapore on my radar. But there is much more to Singapore besides Marina by the Bay. Yes, I enjoyed a drink with a view. But also, enjoyed the street art in the Muslim Quarter, the temples in Little India, the greenery at Fort Collins Park, and the tunes at Clarke Quay.
Macau is a one of the 9 lusophone countries in the world and the 1st lusophone county I have visited. There's more to Macau than casino. The rich Portuguese influence is still felt throughout the city. My favorite things to do here are, getting lost in the city while visiting the Macau Museum, St. Paul Ruins, Guia Park and Fortress, and strolling through Lu Lim Loc Gardens.
